The Story of the Mitten

travel through the park; join us as we walk the trails
of Alley Pond Park
looking for clues of winter wildlife. Students will make their very own animal
track to take home at the end of the class. We will take a walk rain or shine,

seniors. Over the months of
July and August our interns will
explore the many habitats and
ecosystems of one of New York
City’s most treasured parks.
Classes will meet on Thursdays
at variety of different
locations around our 635 acre
park with Alley Pond
Environmental Center being the
main location to observe and
document animals, plants and
geological features of each site
and research information on
these observations to create a
comprehensible local field guide
of Alley Pond Park.

us so much. This event is open
to all that would like to
participate and is great for
Scout Troops. Each participant
is asked to bring a native shrub
(that will provide food and
ground cover for some of our
native animals), work
gloves, sturdy shoes and
clothing that is weather
appropriate. Trees will be
provided.

Join naturalist Mickey Cohen for a slide-illustrated virtual tour of the Galapagos Islands. Mr. Cohen has voyaged to these fascinating islands 19 times and has since delivered over one hundred slide-illustrated lectures on the topic! National Estuaries Day Festival
Saturday, Sept. 26, 11:00 AM- 3:00 PM
Please join us for a festival to commemorate our local estuary Little Neck Bay and meet members of your neighborhood historic, health service, recreational, civic associations, school groups and government organizations.
Hike along our own unique and beautiful estuary trails, listen to live music, visit educational booths and exhibits from neighborhood organizations, and participate in children’s activities and crafts.
