Weekday Early Childhood Programs

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL PROGRAMS
 

                         Early
Alley Pond Environmental Center offers programs available nowhere else: early childhood development standards using nature and animals. It is never too early to offer children sensitivity to the living world around them. What fun it is to see them learn, grow and change as they explore. Join us!

Wee Sprouts:
Ages 18-23 months. 6 participants, parent participation required. Open up the world of nature to your wee ones! Let your child's first learning experience be at APEC. Children will pet animals, enjoy free play with environmental toys, go on mini nature walks, and have a snack. No siblings allowed, except infants in infant seats.

Toddler Time:
Ages 24-35 months. 8 participants per session. Toddlers love to explore new surroundings. Why not give your child a chance to explore the wonderful world of nature! Create nature crafts, read stories, take short nature walks, pet APEC's animals and begin to appreciate nature. No siblings allowed, except infants in infant seats.

Fledglings:
Ages 3-4½ years. 10 participants. Join us as we explore the wonders of nature at Alley Pond Park! We will take enchanting nature walks, hold discussions, create nature crafts, pet APEC's animals and much more! -This is the ideal next step after "Toddler Time."

Sunny Bunnies:
Ages 3-4½ years. 12 participants. Tuesday and Thursday! This program will offer children hands-on opportunities with animals, explorations of our nature trails, discussions on different nature topics, crafts, free play, lunch (bring your own), music time, and more! -Explore the wonderful world of nature!
 

Field Trips for Preschool Groups


For 2's, 3's, and Pre-K and Special Needs
Animals! Animals!
This program offers children real hands-on experience with animals. Children take a mini-nature walk and pet a variety of APEC's animals which may include rabbits, turtles, snakes, guinea pigs, frogs and more!

Just for Pre Kindergarten
What's in a Pond?
One hour and 15 minute craft option available
Through an up close look at pond animals and plants, children discover that a pond is a miniature world full of life! Children also learn what special things all ponds have in common and mini hike to visit a real pond.

Whose Clues?
One hour and 15 minute craft option available
Be detectives for the day! Young naturalists "read" footprints and other clues to discover what animals live at Alley Pond. After an interactive lesson and hands-on experience with APEC's collection of animals, children take a mini hike to practice their new tracking skills.

Crawling Critters
One hour and 15 minute craft option available
They're not so buggy after all! By observing and touching live insects, children learn that these creatures are not only incredible but very important to our Earth. Activities include a bug sorting game that teaches kids how to identify true insects from a confusing array of critters.

Seasonal Pre-K Programs
Let's Talk Turkey
November Only
Autumn Is the season to learn about the amazing lives of birds. Discover the many ways people have used turkey feathers and participate in some hands-on activities such as quill writing and feather zipping. A Nature walk and animal petting are included.

Beautiful Butterflies
May Only
Celebrate a magical time of year when caterpillars turn into butterflies! Come and learn all about this insects fascinating behavior and join us for a nature walk in search of caterpillars. Animal petting is included.

*Butterfly larvae can be ordered to take back to the classroom for an additional fee. Orders must be made at least two weeks in advance.
